  1. Hello
I have been hunting for information on HIPs and energy perfomance reports for long time, and found your site to carry a lot of common sense and plain english.
A rare thing these days, thanks

  2. Hi just read your comments and found them quite funny it strikes me that you are scare mongering and saying that you are the only people to trust ???
    Home info comment Hi Andy
We say as we see it, we decided to offer all the options to the Public (thats you and i by the way)
So we can make informed decisons on how we sell our homes with whom and what the cost will be.
We are not estate agents nor do we offers hips. but we do offer the Public advice on how to compile your own HIP, and not be ripped off by Estate agents or others.
As you say “I have to point out we all aren’t cowboys we all dont have crimminal records and I for one do not want to rip off the general public although I can see that there will be some out there that will.”
Which is why we advise that the EPC should cost no more than £90
    Chris
I have to tell you I am one of the people who have jumoed on the so called gravy train and am currently training asa DEA and whilst I agree with some of what you say, I have to point out we all aren’t cowboys we all dont have crimminal records and I for one do not want to rip off the general public although I can see that there will be some out there that will.
Thats enough for now I look forward to your reply.

  3. Hi Chris
It is interesting that you do not offer HIPs but are prepared to state what a qualified DEA should charge per survey for an EPC.
I wonder how you would react to someone, who was not in your industry, quoting how much you should charge for whatever service it is that you actually offer.
It is very easy to say that an EPC should not cost any more than £90
Please explain how you have arrived at this figure? As it seems to me that it is a figure you have plucked from thin air.
I agree that some EPC’s should be able to be produced for as little as £80 for certain classifications of dwellings, but for larger, more complex properties, a figure of between £120 to £160 would be more realistic.

Home info comment- “Look lets set the record straight here, your are not qualified surveyors, so an EPC should cost no more than £80 regardless of property size. Lets not rip people of here.

I also think you will find that the majority of DEA’s and HIp’s are honest, hard working people that have made a significant financial and emotional investment in an emerging industry.
Also I accept that there will be Rogue Traders who should be hounded out of the business as soon as they are discovered out there, just like there will be Rogue Websites offering advice and charges about something which they obviously know nothing about.

  4. An Epc cost is worth no more than £90 maximum, any more you are being overcharged do not be conned.

Its is worth what we the public think its worth, and having seen an epc compiled i can tell your it is worth no more than £90

    Chris

  5. I’d like to see you get an EPC for less than 125 as that is what the big boys are charging to the vendor. Of course, us lowly DEAs won’t get anything like that – more like half if we’re lucky if the current rates are anything to go by!

So why don’t you stop whining about everyone else and get your facts right and stop attacking people who are trying to earn a reasonable living …. we are allowed to do that you know!

  6. Thanks Lucy

It is what we have been saying all along.

The EPC or energy performace certificate is worth no more than £65

    Chris

  7. Still can not see what all the fuss is about, the market will find its own price for epc’s and it may be possible to get them for £ 40-00 if they over train and there are far to many assessors. If they come down to that price ,beware because you will start seeing a load of cowboys cutting corners . One thing you are forgetting is DEA’ are going to have to keep on paying more money to train as more information is required on the property essement. I think you are right a fair price for an average house should be no more than £ 90-00 but for a complex house it would have to be more whith the length of time spent on it. I think you will find over time it will not be the energy assessors that make the money but the estate agents who will put there price on top of ours.

  8. By the way no we are not qualified surveyors, none of us are saying we are but so what ,we are not asking for thousands of pounds like estate agents ,who need no qualification at all to rip us off.
